SCRIBBLETOWN

NARRATOR

Hello there everyone, it’s so wonderful to see you all. Yes that’s right, even you at the back with your earphones in. I think it’s time I showed you all the wonders of Scribbletown.

EXT

We see the protagonist PETE standing outside a stick figure style house.

NARRATOR

This is Pete

PETE waves at audience

PETE

Y’arlight lads

NARRATOR

Pete wants to take us all on a tour of Scribbletown, Don’t you Pete?

PETE

Sorry pal, but I really can’t be arsed for that today

CHAIR pops into frame next to PETE, he sits down on chair and pulls out a can of beer and starts to drink.

NARRATOR

Erm… Pete, what do you think you’re doing?

PETE

(Burps loudly) I’m just chilling out

NARRATOR

But the people want to see Scribbletown

PETE

Nah mate, it’s a load of crap, proper disappointment innit.

NARRATOR

No it’s not, it’s a magical place for all to enjoy full of wond-

PETE

(BURSTS out laughing, interrupting NARRATOR) It’s a what? (continues to laugh) How much are they paying you say that man, because it is noooooowhere near enough.

NARRATOR
Look will you just shut up and play along. You're really getting on my nerves.

PETE
(Pulls out phone and raises it to his ear)

NARRATOR
What are you doing?

PETE
(On the phone) Alright yeah, is that the illustrator, can you do us a favour? yeah we've got another one

NARRATOR 
Oh haha very funny, you're not gonna turn me into a character.

(suddenly the narrator appears as a new character on screen)

NARRATOR
What the hell just happened?

PETE
(walks over to the narrator) This is gonna be so much fun

NARRATOR
Wait no, what're you doing...

PETE GOES TO PUNCH THE NARRATOR JUST BEFORE THE TWO CHARACTERS CONNECT THE SCREEN CUTS TO A BLACK SCREEN WITH THE WORD "fin" IN BLACK WRITING. 

LO1 - Task 2: Treatment

For my animation I will need to use a canon 650D camera as well as adobe after effects. My film will be called Scribbletown. The narrative of my animation will follow the story of a man who draws a stick figure and then it comes to life. After that the artist and the stick figure will fight by drawing up objects to use against each other. The film will end with both characters separating their differences and becoming friends. It will be created as an entertainment product targeted at an audience of 4-9 years old. I think that my film fits this audience because of the cartoony style, child friendly humour and message about friendship at the end. My film will run for between 2:00 and 2:15 minutes, depending on the amount of frames per second and events happening in the story. I will use adobe after effects to create the stick man character and various other drawings that come to life, if this does not work I will redo my pictures whilst actually drawing the pictures which removes the need of after effects. I will aim to have all my preproduction complete within 2 weeks of starting, this will be on the 20th of September. I will then start to take the photos for my animation, because I will already have all of my drawings done, I will aim to complete this within a day. I will then make a start on the editing of my images and adding in of the other drawing effects, this will take around 3 weeks to complete, with adobe after effects, due to the large amount of frames. If I am not able to use After Effects then I will redraw the pictures from my film, and redo the photo shoot. The risks to health when creating this product, include the use of scissors when I am cutting up the pieces of paper when creating the backgrounds for my images and the large amount of drawing and use of the computer could result in RSI.

LO1 - Task 1: Animation Planning

I will be making a 2 minute long animation aimed to entertain a target audience of children aged between 5 & 6.
To create this animation I will use a combination of live action photography and adobe after effects to create the figures and objects that will be animated. I was inspired to go for this mixture of styles by the music video for "take on me" By Aha as well as films like "Space Jam" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" because of how they successfully managed to merge both mediums. I would use a singular framed shot throughout, which would be focus on a piece of paper on a desk. This method of framing was inspired by the director Wes Anderson.
The narrative of my piece would be about someone drawing a stick figure on a piece of paper and then it comes to life. So there will only be the 2 characters in my film.
